Fascinated by the quest for identity and belonging that awaits individuals after displacement or forced migration, Peruvian artist Cecilia Paredes makes herself part of the landscape she paints. However, Paredes has said, we must always be mindful of our origins. Thus, while this veritable chameleon may appear to be one and the same with the wallpapered background, she makes sure that her presence and her true identity — be it the whites of her eyes or a strand of her auburn hair — is known to the viewer.
